Acting Out is thrilled to be offering our annual summer Center Stage program! This is a fast-paced two-week program culminating in an incredible LIVE performance. The entire session and final performance will be at our Acting Out! space.
The first day is devoted to auditioning prep in the morning and auditioning in the afternoon. All audition material will be provided for the students on day one! The rest of the first week mornings will have actors immersed in a variety of theatre activities including( but not limited to) set and costume design, physical comedy, acting, and character development, Shakespeare, improv, musical theater dance, and more! Each day we will explore something new!
Every afternoon will be focused on our musical. We will explore choreography, vocal technique, and acting to create our final production. Regardless of being the "lead" or in the ensemble, each student will be pushed to learn new skills and work towards our final performance.
Our theater intensive is for all skill levels and will give every cast member a chance to shine! We focus on self-confidence, self-expression, commitment, and of course, FUN!
NATALIE HALLER is teenage girl who dreams of falling in love with a special guy. She’s an excellent mechanic and cross-dresses as "Ed" to get Chad's attention
MISS SANDRA is the beautiful curator of the town museum. She wants substance in a guy, falling for "Ed".
LORRAINE is the daughter of Sylvia, who runs the local honky tonk/blues night stop and bar. She is also looking for youthful love. She falls in love with Dean.
SYLVIA is the owner of the local night stop and bar where folks gather to have a good time with good music be it rock or blues. She is very aware that she and her daughter are from “the wrong side of the tracks”. She’s a bit similar to HAIRSPRAY’s Motormouth Maybelle.
MAYOR MATILDA HYDE is very conservative and wants to keep the devil out of her town. Her son, Dean, is being shipped off to a military school.
CHAD drove his motorcycle into a small conservative town where he finds several opportunities for love. He's essentially Elvis
DENNIS is the nerdy best friend of Natalie, whom he is in love with, but who Natalie is only interested in as a friend.
DEAN HYDE is the son of the conservative mayor, Matlida, who will send him off to military school. He becomes the love interest of Lorraine.
JIM HALLER is Natalie’s father and he, too, is looking for love. He misses his deceased wife but eventually finds love in the person of Miss Sylvia.
SHERIFF EARL has been enforcing the consistently conservative laws of the town under the leadership of Ms. Matilda. They eventually find one another.
